Naked Nancy by Mel
A great book about the freedom of childhood
I grew up in a controlling and closed-off family where my role and rules were set before I was born by parents who didn't care about me much.
Reading Naked Nancy is a breath of fresh air because the titular character discovers accidentally a new lifestyle and her parents lovingly join in to let her explore life to the fullest.
This isn't accidental, it's crucial for kids to enjoy that freedom, and seeing how naturism is a way to live freedom to the maximum, I feel like Naked Nancy hits the nail on an aspect of growing up that too many kids of today lose while chained to social media.
Even her adventure searching for the time capsule had me gripping at the pages as I worried at the lack of adult supervision which is so normal for previous generations but which is missing in today's kids, present company included.
I feel like Naked Nancy isn't just the tale of a young girl exploring life, but the tale of a lost generation trying to recapture its freedom, lost to helicopter parents and a state that arrests parents who let their kids go to the park alone.
The book is great, with wonderful pacing, funny passages, but the story itself is illuminating and shows what I didn't get growing up, and what younger kids are missing. The ability to be free.
I strongly recommend this book!
